Contributing as an organization
Contribute geospatial data or imagery for tracing
Why?
Open your data to a global audience. Benefit from more eyes on your data to keep it up to date.
How?
- Contact the local OSM chapter
- Learn about licensing for OSM
- Find out how to add different datasets
- Process and preparation - get inspired by how others interact with the community (West Midlands, Milan, Seattle)
Organize a mapathon
It feels good to do good. Show your employees, members and customers how easy it is go get involved in open mapping.
⏰ Before
- Find a cause that matters to your organization or the occasion. It could be a new cause or an existing project (Nepal earthquake 2015, Mapping to end Malaria 2016, Mapping for Ebola 2014).
- Organize a venue, date and time - the rule is: there must be 🍕🍕🍕 for the mappers. Make sure venue has enough power outlets and stable Wifi.
- Invite mappers. People should bring a laptop with mouse and a modern browser.
- Invite the local OSM community to help with training.
- Set up the HOT Tasking Manager to spread the load efficiently.
🎉 On the day
- Share information on the cause and how open mapping contributes.
- Get people to sign up.
- Give a short intro to using OpenStreetMap and the Tasking Manager.
- Get mapping! There should be some experienced mappers to walk around and answer questions.
💌 After
Keep the communication going on what the added map data helped to achieve.
